Do positive self affirmations actually have any positive effect? The short answer is ‘No’ – unless you have a few years to spare and a heavy-duty reserve of perseverance. The problem is that positive-affirmation is address at your conscious mind and, sadly, your conscious mind has got nothing to do with how you behave, the way that you react to people and events, how you see life in general or, most importantly, the view that you take of yourself. However, as we’ve said, if you throw enough mud at your conscious mind, sooner or later – in fact, definitely later – some of that mud will eventually stick and make some kind of reasonable impression on your subconscious mind. However, you’d have to stick with it incessantly and, even then, you’d be facing an uphill battle because your subconscious mind will simply not believe what you’re trying to tell it if its view of reality is the opposite. Why? Your subconscious mind controls your beliefs, behaviours and reactions and actually creates your own personal version of reality. Self-affirmation is like trying to throw snowballs at hell’s fiery furnace!!
However, if you really do want to change your life, some aspect of your life, or change yourself, your own self confidence or some unsavoury behaviour or bad habit, it’s your subconscious mind that you will have to impress. It holds all the keys, has its hand on all the levers and its feet on all the pedals that either get your life moving in the fast lane or, more often than not, grind to an absolute and juddering full stop.
In order to impress your subconscious mind, you’re going to have to become like a little child again – not childish but childlike. When you were a child you paid full attention to the reality of the here and now, using all of your five senses – that is how you learned your current set of beliefs about the world and who you think you are. Consequently, you now pay little or no attention to reality today – your subconscious mind pretty much makes it up for you as it goes along! – with all the normal results. You need to come back to your senses, to relearn how to pay full attention to what’s actually happening around you, instead of paying attention to your subconscious baggage that’s weighing you down.
The normal subconscious is wallowing in the past. The key to your future is here in the present. After all, the present moment is the only time and place where life is truly lived. As such, you’ve got to re-learn how to pay attention to what is actually going on, not what your subconscious mind, looking through its dirty lens of long-gone events, thinks is going on. This re-learning process involves training yourself how to pay attention to what you see, feel, hear, smell and taste. This training has to be undertaken in peace and quiet so that, when things get rough in the so-called real world, you’re fighting fit and ready to do your thing in a manner that will lead you onwards and upwards to the life that you really want.

I often find it hard to discuss some of the key ideas of what might be termed personal development or self improvement given that ordinary words and language prove far from adequate. By way of example, do the words ‘universal energy’ adequately capture the reality that you and I are energy, living in a world and universe comprised solely of vibrating energy and that energy responds to our input? Does the sobriquet ‘Law of Attraction’ mean different things to different people? And where are the boundaries between mind, body and spirit?
In fact, of course, there are no boundaries between mind, body and spirit in the same way that there are no limits between us as individuals and the universe of which each of us comprises an indispensable and intergal part. We are not just part of a whole, when it comes to us as individuals, there is just one – mind, body and spirit are simply different aspects of the one. This is important because, when we look at the facts in this way, it becomes obvious that our thoughts have an immediate impact on how we feel spiritually and physically. By way of example, when one examines the problem of stress and its very real physical consequences, we realize that our thoughts directly result in shifts in body temperature and heart rate, changes in the creation and release of a whole range of chemicals all of which, if unchecked, lead to serious illnesses – such as heart attack and stroke – and, if seriously out of control, will lead to untimely death.
What is my point? . Our state of mind has a direct impact on the state of mind of others around us – this has been proven time and again by research in the field of psychology. How much more does our state of mind affect us, ourselves? Your health, fitness and wellbeing are all directly related to your state of mind. Even your weight – your inclination to put on too much of it or a variety of eating disorders from bulimia to anorexia – is a direct consequence of what is going on in your head.
And what is going on in your head is entirely within your own control – or will be if you make the effort to make the simplest and, ultimately, most liberating decision that any one of us can make as grown ups – choosing your own thoughts. The normal mind is tortured by destructive thoughts, most of which rise from the subconscious. Research confirms that the ordinary subconscious is focused on the events of our childhood years and is predisposed to focus on the negative rather than the positive. This is our default state of mind. That is not to say that we can’t decide as to what we will pay attention to, however.
You’re your own master. Your life, in all its aspects, is created by what you’re paying attention to – whether you’re aware of it or not. That ultimate and liberating decision that I just mentioned can be taken, day to day, moment to moment, by choosing to pay attention to the actual reality of the present moment. This is the only cast-iron way of stopping your own subconscious wallowing in self-destructive thoughts. No other way is more effective, no other way gives you the power to completely transform your fitness, your health, your wellness, your personal effectiveness and, ultimately, your ability to have a life of peace, happiness and unbelievable success.

I find it strange. I know lots of people who have told me that they do not know how to how to relax. One friend explained that he feels guilty sitting doing nothing on a Saturday – he feels obliged to fly around the house and garden determined to find something to do. Another client recently confessed that, whilst Saturday morning is his golf morning, and even though he actually goes out on the course, he doesn’t actually play! He can’t – his mind is wandering back to what happened during the previous week or what’s happening next week. He’s out on the course but, not only is he not chilled, he’s not even all there! Even worse, a client who doesn’t have a care in the world – great job that he’s really on top of, great home life, great everything, tells me that when he’s playing golf he actually feels guilty – feeling that he should be in the office or at home!
Modern living almost demands of us that we should be constantly on the go. But there’s a big difference between cramming your time with activity and doing the really important things. And one of the most important things that you should have as an integral part of your life is time to chill. A New York Times article a few years ago revealed that native tribes in the Amazon basin live the life that most New Yorkers want – seven hours work each week, the balance spent at leisure. However, the average New Yorker simply wouldn’t know what to do with all that leisure. Sure, there’d be lots of activity squeezed into it – but what about totally chilling (like the Amazonians)?
Get yourself an easy chair, sit yourself down and do nothing for half an hour – you’ll be amazed where your mind takes you. Or find a shade tree, spread out a blanket and just sit down. This is the kind of space that is needed in our lives – not to recharge our batteries, but to clear our heads, become inspired and discover the crucial stuff that we need to do to move our lives forward. Sir Isaac Newton was resting under just such a tree when the apple fell for him – find your tree and you’ll discover that pennies will drop for you. A little relaxation will change your life.

Almost as soon as our day gets going it’s very easy to get swept away by the routine, the urgent (as distinct from the important), the latest minor crisis or, most common of all, self-defeating thought. And even though you may have started your day properly, it is all too easy to become submerged and go back to our default state of unfocused mindlessness.
So, first things first, what does starting your day properly mean? Well, we make certain that we don’t leave home physically unprepared for the day ahead. We wash and dress ourselves – shaving or applying the odd dab of make-up as appropriate! Conversely, most of us automatically set out each morning mentally unprepared for what lies in store. Starting the day properly means making sure that, before leaving home, you’ve taken the appropriate step or steps to clear your mind and focus your energy. I recommend approximately ten minutes mental preparation first thing. Find somewhere quiet to sit and focus on what your senses are telling you – one sense at a time. This ensures that you’re focused on what is really happening as distinct from the subconscious programs that otherwise run your life – those programs being your default mental settings.
OK, let’s say that you’ve got your day off to the perfect start, you’re tuned in, fully focused, alert and ready for action. Little things like a delayed train, like getting stuck in traffic, like someone asking you for something unexpectedly – so many little things can rough us up. To say nothing of the big things! It is so easy to wander effortlessly into mental oblivion as the day progresses. What we need to do is ensure that, during the day, we pause to catch our breath – literally.
Age-old wisdom places great emphasis on the opportunity that our breathing affords us to clear the mind of useless noise and distraction and, in doing so, focus our energy. So, here’s a simple, quick and entirely useful tip – because, after all, you’ve got to breathe anyway! Take a couple of moments – moments is all that it takes – throughout the day to pay attention to the reality of your existence as you inhale and exhale. Focus your attention on what it feels like to breathe, how your body responds with each breath that you take, how the air passes through the right, left or both nostrils. Give thanks for the reality that you are alive and breathing. Focus on nothing else for these few moments. If the hassles or useless thoughts of the moment start invading your mind, take three deeper breaths to refocus your attention. As you breathe, realize that whatever might be doing your head in right now will be completely forgotten in months, weeks, days or even hours. Understand that, with an focused, alert and ready mind, all things are possible.

Do you know what exactly the Holosync is? This is a multi level system that uses particular audio tracks in order to engage the listener in a deeper meditative condition when practiced according to the accompanying regimen.
Actually, this technology was invented by Centerpoint Research Institute, and its basic goal is providing greater results in less time than is usually needed when it relates to traditional methods of meditation. It is reasonable to add here that usual meditation consists of a chain of mental and physical exercises that are intended to take the mind to the desired meditative level. There is no need to mention that this can take a lot of time since standard meditation involves hours of trainings each day.
As concerning Holosync it should be pointed out that this program uses a technology that was developed in the 70th, and this program employs special audio tracks intended to produce brain wave patterns equal to those experienced by advanced meditation practitioners. And pay attention to that no years of training and discipline are required.
It is also useful for you to remember that in the Holosync specific tonal patterns are woven into comforting background music. They produce the alpha, beta, delta and theta wave reactions in the brain that are experienced during meditation.
These are the results that are got:
Emotional health is enhanced and stabilized.
Focus, as well as cognitive skill, is improved.
Sleep is improved.
Tension and anxiety levels are significantly lowered.
Needless to say that even this great program does not guarantee to accomplish in one session. But if compared to its key competitors Holosync involves less time to be devoted.
Here are the central pluses of Holosync for you to think about:
1. A number of reviews confirm that this technology effects the psychological state of the listener and, if used as it should be, it will allow users to get all the benefits of meditation with significantly shorter and less frequent sessions.
2. Holosync is based on clinical research.
3. There is a large support on the Holosync web site that is provided by countless happy users.
4. Everyone is able to fit the program according to specific way of life and effect requirements.
To conclude it all it should be underlined that the Holosync Program produces real results. So, it is up to you to make a decision whether you are ready to start a new life.

Do you remember that spark of hope you felt when you watched The Secret? I clearly remember the desire that filled my heart, knowing that – Yes, I can make my dreams come true – FINALLY!
But how many of you soon saw that hope dwindle into frustration and disappointment? How many of you (and be honest now) started muttering things like:
- “It seems to work for other people, but I just can’t get it right.”
- “I’m frustrated that sometimes I can get it to work, but sometimes I can’t. What’s the trick?”
- “Why am I having so much trouble?”
- “I think the universe is against me.”
- “I’m trying very, VERY hard but still nothing is happening!”
Don’t worry, you are not alone. About 97% of people also couldn’t make the Law of Attraction work for them the first time trying. Think about it, just like anything else, you have to practice many times before you see success. A child doesn’t learn to walk without falling over a couple of times, afterall.
But in practice, everything is easier said than done. When you’re frustrated, it can be hard to remain in a positive frame of mind. And it’s especially hard to stay positive when the evidence all around you is screaming negativity like the unstable economy or senseless acts of violence which frequent our news broadcasts.
And do you know what happens when you fail to stay positive? That’s right – you start attracting negative things in to your life rather than the positive you were after in the first place.
So how can you make the Law of Attraction work for you – without getting frustrated? How do those who successfully implement the Law of Attraction do it with such confidence and finesse?
Well, here’s three quick tips so you will never feel frustrated or tired of begging from the universe, because you know how to start manifesting like a pro.
1. Allow Yourself To Receive
Just like a lost child who approaches a police officer and asks, “Excuse me Sir, can you tell me how to go to the post office? Can you? Can you? Can you? Can you? Can you?” Well, if the child goes on and on asking, the police officer can’t even give an answer, right?
Well, it’s the same thing with your mind. If the only thing your mind is doing is transmit, transmit, transmit, the universe — which is trying to respond — can’t give you a single thing because you’re not allowing yourself to receive!
So, have the confidence in yourself and stop exhausting yourself by running around person to person begging for riches, and then wondering why nobody is dropping a penny in your cup (Hint: It’s because you’re running away too fast for them before they can even reach for their wallets).
Just think of your desires and leave it out there, go away, and trust that your cup will be filled with gold coins (or whatever it is you asked for) when the time is right.
2. Be Patient With Yourself
Receiving takes time.
Sadly, many people give up just a couple of steps before the finish line because they’ve decided that if it’s not working by now, it’s never going to work at all. Worse still are those who throw in more and more energy because they think that with more resources, the results will come faster.
This is like expecting 9 mothers to conceive and deliver a baby in 1 month. You also can’t bake cookies in half the time by doubling the temperature. You’ll incinerate those cookies to ashes!
In simple terms: Everything in this world has a natural development time, and this fact will not change no matter what resources you throw at it.
So relax and be patient. Remember that you too, as part of the universe, are also governed by the laws of the universe, and you cannot change the natural development time.
If you remember this, you will less likely work yourself up into frustration, or worse, push yourself into a downward spiral of negativity.
3. Support and Educate Yourself
Like the child who is learning how to walk, you need support. You also need to guidance on how to do it, and also the role models to look up to.
Many people give up because they think that “The Secret” is the “be all and end all” solution. Well, it’s NOT. “The Secret” is just a small portion. It was never intended, and has never been, the whole answer.
Coming to the conclusion that the Law of Attraction doesn’t work when all you ever did to educate yourself was watch “The Secret” 19 times (without looking at changing the habits of other areas of your life) is like coming to the conclusion that exercising is not an effective way to lose weight because all you did is run on the treadmill for 2 hours a day (but you’re still stuffing yourself with fried foods and cheesecakes).
So seek and be hungry for new knowledge. Also, make an effort to be amongst people or communities where you can support each other, learn from each other and also share new knowledge that you have found.
While the Law of Attraction is not an overnight delivery service, it will indeed deliver, if you do your part too!

The below is an interesting article that I found on achieving your goals which ends with a link to the authors site with a course based around the famous Think And Grow Rich by Napolean Hill.
All of the great achievers throughout history have one thing in common. They have all been dreamers or desirers. If anyone is to achieve their goals in life then the first thing they need to do is establish what their desires are. That’s what makes people who are highly successful different from the rest – they know exactly what they want in life.
Simply wishing for success is insufficient. If anyone is to make any steps towards their definite objectives then they need to have a determined attitude, bordering on obsession, to fulfill that desire. It does not matter what your desire is. It may be a desire to excel in business, it could be a desire to learn a new skill, or it could involve a desire to change aspects of your personal life.
Whatever desire a person has, it will only be fulfilled if some of the following actions are taken. Firstly a person must realize what it is they need to make them content with their lives and give themselves step by step aims. Then they need to consider how much work they need to put in if they are ever to begin achieving those aims. Next they should set a deadline for reaching their final goal and then create a plan with a timeline highlighting how and when they will go about their tasks. This knowledge must be updated and read out regularly to keep a person on track to satisfying their desire.
All who achieve great things adopt a similar philosophy when setting themselves goals. The best writers, artists, sportsmen, inventors, musicians and scientists, along with many other pioneers of modern professions, all follow the process of putting their thoughts into action successfully when backed by a burning desire. Everyone, no matter what their chosen path in life may be, will start in the same situation with nothing but their thoughts and desires to spur them on.
Many people lack self confidence and are unwilling to set their aims higher through fear of failing. This sometimes develops due to people close to them discouraging them because they feel they are unrealistic with their goals and life choices. It may be that friends and family do not approve and so use ridicule to prevent their loved one from making what they feel is a mistake.
However, these people need to realize that we live in a world that continually throws us new and unique opportunities. The world only became modernized with the efforts of the creative and productive generations before us. Without the burning desire that these people had we might never have discovered the power to travel abroad by plane, communicate with the other side of the world by phone, order something from overseas by the net. With the development of technology and the industrialization of the world, we now have more job opportunity and diversity than we have ever had.
The time for everyone to realize their dreams is now. We must continue to follow the same methods of pioneers before us by taking the courage to act upon our thoughts with conviction and fulfill our burning desires. It is important that all negative influences are avoided. There is no excuse for procrastination, and laziness. It is easy for people to say they want to achieve but in reality they will only start to realize their goals once they take those first steps in which they make a plan outlining the route to success.
Everyone has to start somewhere and not everything will go to plan. What is fundamental to success is that a person is not discouraged by initial failure. Most people who have claimed to have ‘made it’ in life will also be the first to admit that they had failures along the way. With every failure comes the chance to learn something new for another opportunity.
All achievements no matter how significant they are to others begin with a burning desire to get the result intended. In the human mind there is a power that is hard to explain. It is the ability to focus positive thoughts on achieving the thing that is wanted most. Success is sometimes a thing that at first seems impossible. When a burning desire in a person is so strong the word impossible loses significance.
